Moved to the curb along Route 66 in 1983 the Galena Railroad Depot was built in 1900. The terminal was built for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, the M-K-T Katy Line and was converted into the Galena Mining & History museum.
Galena Kansas was named for the lead sulfide mineral-Galena, the world's most important ore of lead. And was part of the Tri-State mining area of S/E Kansas, S/W Missouri and N/E Missouri. After the mines closed in the 1970’s the 30,000 populace of Galena declined.
