BLAINE DEPOT
BLAINE, WASHINGTON -USA
Location: BLAINE, WA
Description:
|
Comments/Directions:
Developers hope to move and transform that structure, which sits about 15 feet from the railroad tracks near F Street, into the centerpiece of the city?s planned Plover Park on the waterfront. Despite some minor damage from fire and water, most of the building could be moved and saved, although a fireplace and foundation beams will likely have to be left behind. Drayton Harbor Maritime wants to move the depot, now owned by BNSF Railway Co., to the end of Milhollin Avenue on land owned by the Port of Bellingham. There it could welcome ferry passengers disembarking the Plover ferry nearby.

The Cascade Rail Foundation CRF (formerly the Friends of the South Cle Elum Depot) was formed in the summer of 1999 for the rehabilitation and historic preservation of the Milwaukee Road facilities at South Cle Elum, Washington.
The CRF is now a Washington State nonprofit corporation, and operates under the 501(c)(3) tax-deductible status of the Northern Kittitas County Historical Society, an IRS registered non-profit organization.
It is the vision of the Cascade Rail Foundation, in partnership with Washington State Parks, that the South Cle Elum site, in the Iron Horse State Park, will become a significant resource for the region and the nation. The site is dedicated to the interpretation and preservation of the history of the Milwaukee Road's western extension and electrification. The Milwaukee is considered one of the most significant and cherished railroads ever to exist in the United States.
After 6 years of hard work this beautifully restored Milwaukee Road Depot re-opened it's doors on July 1st, 2006 to visitors. It is located in the Iron Horse State Park on the John Wayne Trail and offers fantastic views of Peoh Point and the original rail yard. Come and join us for a meal in the cafe, take a hike on the interpretive trail and browse through some of our artifacts that are on display in the adjoining museum. Developement of the South Cle Elum Railyard is a cooperative effort between Washington State Parks and the Cascade

Housed in a restored Northern Pacific depot, the Depot Restaurant & Lounge is truly a unique dining experience. They serve up a variety of American favorites along with their flagship Seafood Chowder and Friday night Prime Rib in the beautifully preserved passenger waiting area and baggage claim sections of th original 1910 Yakima Train Station. Out door seating is delightful because it is away form the steet traffic and direct sunlight.
The Dept has recently been in the news because of the discovery of Famous Hobo etchings chiseled into the marble walls of the bathrooms by "A#1",as characterized by Lee Marvin in "The Emperor of the North"
