Comments/Directions: This building was the original office of the Delaware & Hudson Canal Co., built in 1860. the canal and the railroad from Carbondale began at this building's back door. It is designated as a National Historic Landmark. Among other things,the museum houses an almost exact replica of the Stourbridge Lion; the original is in the Smithsonian. Also on the floor is the D. & H. passenger gravity car which has a hand-stenciled ceiling and beautiful wood -carved interior. There is a 30-minute video called "The Gravity" plus lots more. An exhibit of County Historian Vernon Leslie's 4,600 piece archaeology collection can be viewed here. It interprets the Native American history of the upper Delaware River Valley, and includes a dugout canoe circa 1650. The Glass Exhibit contains works from about 28 glass-cutting shops which used to supply eight Presidents of the United States with cut glass, beginning with Lincoln.
