Comments/Directions:
TEDD LiGGETT's phOTOGRAPH_oF_tHE_dAY #6177 - The railroad depot in Rochelle Georgia was built in 1916; a community landmark located at 1st Avenue (US 280) & Ashley Street (GA Hwy 215). A town of 1,200, Rochelle is 20 miles east of Cordelle. In 1887, the Americus, Preston, and Lumpkin Railroad laid tracks through Rochelle, bought out, renamed the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, known as ‘The Route of Courteous Service’. Operating since 1900 the SAL merged with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, and formed the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in 1967. With a collapsed freight platform, sagging roof & broken windows Rochelle’s train depot is in somber shape, yet well built with potential for restoration.
