RAILROAD MEMORABILIA ON DISPLAY HISTORICAL LANDMARK
Comments/Directions: A small display of artifacts of the former Fort Worth and Denver City Railroad (nicknamed "The Denver Road") is found in a portion of the museum. The FW&D operated from 1881 to 1982 including a local District Roundhouse starting in 1901. The main line ran west from Fort Worth to Texline (at the NM state line), where it connected with parent company Colorado and Southern (later Burlington). Other fine displays include the history of the former Childress Army Airfield, a period school classroom set up and arranged with blackboards, tiny grade-school desks and a teacher's desk. Located in the former 1935 U.S. Post Office building - a Texas Historical Landmark of Spanish Colonial archetecture. Free. Hours 10-5 Tu-Thu, or appointment. The affiliated Mitchie Transportation Museum located nearby has some rr artifacts.
