Atlantic Coastline Railroad Depot, Hwy 19-98, Dixie County, Cross City Florida
Trains were replacing steam ship commerce in the Suwannee River Valley in the early 1900’s. The Atlantic Coastline Railroad hauled cypress wood and passengers from the Suwannee River floodplain with connections all over the southeast. By 1925 the ACL managed almost 5,000 miles, excluding its cluster of subsidiaries. Ninety years later the steel rails were ripped up and asphalt was laid, becoming Nature Coast State Trail that stretches 32 miles Chiefland to Manatee Springs.

Information sign on the depot located in the Kalona Historic village. The depot was relocated to this site and the interior is open to visitors.
In 1879 the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railroad came to Kalona. In time it was sold to the Rock Island Line. The Depot Agent’s family lived upstairs. The railroad terminated service to Kalona in 1969. The Depot was moved from its original site and restored by funds raised by a “Save the Depot” campaign conducted by Alpha Club, Woman’s Federated Club in 1970-1972.

The former Chicago and North Western Passenger Depot in Dekalb was built in 1891. It is still standing but no longer used. The freight depot was across the tracks but was torn down. Wikipedia said it is used by the Union Pacific but t is currently boarded up. You can walk around the depot.

DeKalb station is a former railway station in Downtown DeKalb, Illinois. It served passenger trains of the Chicago and North Western Railway (C&NW) along its main line between Chicago and Omaha. The station was designed by Charles Sumner Frost and Alfred Hoyt Granger in 1891 and closed for passenger service in 1971. The building still stands and is used by the Union Pacific Railroad for offices. "

The owner is a gracious host and showed me the history of the depot and some of the interior character left from the legacy of the depot. The building has been very nicely restored, updated and preserved to not only be home to the business but also show the building's history. Stop in if you are in need of carpet or interior design and have a cup of coffed in the coffee shop in the depot.
