Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad Atlanta, Georgia.
Pulled by a 122 ton diesel electric that was once operated by the Baltimore and Ohio railroad this train ride begins west of the Stone Mountain carving at a re-creation of Atlanta's antebellum train depot.
A ground level loop completed in April of 1962 circles Stone Mountain Park in Atlanta Georgia for five miles. Originally pulled by steam-engine recreations of ?The General? and ?The Texas?, the train today is diesel-powered.
The open-air passenger train can also be boarded and de-boarded at the Memorial Depot at the Crossroads & Confederate Hall at the base of the Walk-Up Trail. The trip lasts 25-30 minutes & cuts through some beautiful Georgia forest & terrain.
The train experience includes a narration about the chronological history of trains around Stone Mountain from the mid-1880?s titled ?A Look Back Down the Tracks? and includes facts about early the rail line which was first built at Stone Mountain for hauling rock. Sing-a-longs , train-theme music and narration make the ride fun and informative.
