This view gives a good idea of how bright and open the depot must have been. There was a failed attempt to preserve it in the '80's. I believe much of the interior (seating, etc.) was removed in preparation for the restoration then. I don't know where any of it is now.

This beautiful stair is the only way to access the upper level waiting area. The arc of the underside is repeated in the curve of a window overlooking the lower floor that is just at the right edge of this image.

A view of the door header detail. The building appears to be some sort of Art Deco from the '40's but was actually built in 1909. Full report HERE

I went inside the vacant depot recently after a local photographer took some senior photos. He said there were no homeless or druggies inside and the local authorities told him that if the gate was open, you're welcome to snoop. This is the main central area. There was probably a clock in the round shape on the left.

If I have my facts right, KCS and Katy used the depot. MoPac had an awesome depot of its own on 10th & Main near the roundhouse but it was torn down.
