Comments/Directions:
Dead ends at Abingdon, also goes through the town of Damascus, VA. About 35 miles long, with Damascus almost dead center. From White Top Station to Damascus is the most popular recreational ride as it is almost all downhill (quite steep at times ... hence the name of the railroad as the "Creeper") and very isolated. Between Damascus and Abingdon it is mostly through farmland and woods.

The original Fairfax Station was constructed in the 1850s. During the Civil War the station was the site of several raids and battles, and became a center for emergency treatment of the wounded from the Battle of Second Manassas where Clara Barton first volunteered to provide assistance to battle casualties. The rebuilt replica of the station is now a museum of local railroading and Civil War memorabilia.

Southern caboose on display at depot. The Manassas Railroad Depot is the City's fifth passenger station, and the third on the present site. It dates from 1914, and incorporates elements of a 1910 depot that was damaged by fire. The building was rehabilitated under a federal ISTEA grant in 1997. Part of The Manassas Museum System, the Depot features a Visitor Center (operated by Historic Manassas, Inc.) and the James and Marion Payne Railroad Heritage Gallery (featuring artifacts and photos from the Northern Virginia region's rail history). The Depot also continues to serve passengers of Amtrak and the Virginia Railway Express commuter service.
