The Amboy Depot Museum is located in a former depot and division headquarters of the Illinois Central Railroad located in Amboy, Illinois. It has been completely restored both inside and out, and includes the original brick tarmac surrounding the depot and the grounds of the former rail-yard, now preserved as a city park. Within the museum are artifacts of both the history of Amboy and the Illinois Central Railroad. The museum complex also contains a freight house with additional artifacts, a fully restored one-room country schoolhouse, a retired steam engine and a caboose. The Depot was originally built in the 1870's by the Chicago, Danville & Vincennes (CD&V) RR. The Chicago & Eastern Illinois (C&EI) RR took it over and operated it until the 1960's when it closed. The depot was sold & moved to Monee, IL to Thompson's Winery where it was used as a gift shop until the 1980's. It was returned to it's original site in Beecher in 2000, and renovated to it's present state. It is a standard wooden depot and one of the last of its kind left on the C&EI route. It is the home of the local historical society and is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon.

Former GM&O depot is now a local railroad museum. The station is owned by the Village of Chatham and was restored by the Friends of the Depot in 1991. In 1999 the Chicago & Illinois Midland Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society signed an agreement with Chatham to re-restore the station and create the Chatham Railroad Museum. The museum will preserve the station and area railroad history for the benefit of the community.

Kiddieland will be starting its 80th season this April. This is an old family fun park I used to go to with my parents when I lived in Elmhurst. Miniature diesel operates as it did back then. Kiddieland plans on operating their Wagner 484 Northern 14 guage steam fired train on Saturday, Sundays and holidays during our 2008 season. The engine has undergone an overhaul and restoration and we were successful in hiring a couple of Steam Train qualified engineers this past summer and operated Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays through the end of October. Our Guests really enjoyed the Steam train operating and even the couple of hours it stood outside while the fire in the boiler got up to temperature and pressure. We usually operated the train about 5-6 hours per day.
Kiddieland has announced that 2009 will be its last season closing in late Sept. so get your rides NOW!

The C&A depot in Pekin is undergoing restoration including removal or lead based paint and return to its original colors. The train depot was moved to its current location on Broadway Road across from the Pekin Housing Authority on July 20, 2007 after David and Louise Milam donated it. Had the park district not moved the depot, it would have been leveled to make way for the new Walgreens Drug Store at the corner of Broadway Road and 14th Street. The park district has not yet decided how the depot will be used once it is restored, but Blackwell said it could eventually become a railroad museum.

Comments/Directions:
Railroad observation park located between the UP and BNSF railroads. A 3 foot guage Whitcomb locomotive is on display. This is a park provided by the city for railfans to watch the 100+ trains a day that pass through this area. There is also a railroad related Gift Shop, open 9 to 5 daily only closed on Monday and Tuesday. Coming soon to the Rochelle Railroad Park, a Whitcomb center cab Locomotive - Hall Printing #5, was donated to the City of Rochelle from the Wisconsin Southern Railroad. Locomotive is currently being repainted and readied for its new home at the Railroad Park.

Comments/Directions:
Site of the first railroad bridge to cross the Mississippi river. Completed in April of 1856. a few weeks later, the steamboat Effie Afton struck the bridge. The steamboat was destroyed by fire and part of the bridge was damaged. The owners of the steamboat company filed a lawsuit against the Rock Island Railroad. The railroad was defended by Illinois attorney, Abraham Lincoln. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court which ruled in favor of Lincoln and the railroad. Years later the bridge was replaced. A monument still stands at the bridge site.
