Beautiful depot in Spanish Mission Revival style that had been used by Santa Fe RR and Fred Harvey House Hotels and that featured stucco exterior, roofs of red tile and round arches. Built in 1910 costing $120,000 after Santa Fe RR entered town in 1908, with Harvey House dining room until 1940. Current owners- a private auction company - should donate to locals who are proposing a Santa Fe RR museum. A wonderful location rather than 2nd floor of downtown office building! Lots of intersecting lines and train spotting nearby.

The FW&D operated from 1881 to 1982 including a local District Roundhouse starting in 1901. The main line ran west from Fort Worth to Texline (at the NM state line), where it connected with parent company Colorado and Southern (later Burlington). Other fine displays include the history of the former Childress Army Airfield, a period school classroom set up and arranged with blackboards, tiny grade-school desks and a teacher's desk. Located in the former 1935 U.S. Post Office building - a Texas Historical Landmark of Spanish Colonial archetecture. Free. Hours 10-5 Tu-Thu, or appointment. The affiliated Mitchie Transportation Museum located nearby has some rr artifacts.
